The university town and hanseatic city of Greifswald has abput 60000 inhabitants. It is the district town of administrative district Vorpommern and is the fifth largest city of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Greifswald is situated on the river Ryck at the Bay of Greifswald. It is inter-island Rügen and Usedom at the mouth of the river near Dänische Wiek, Bay of Greifswald. The river Ryck flows in the Baltic Sea.

The venerable university is one of the aspiring cities in Germany and is one of the most popular places to study in the Federal Republic and a place of science worldwide.

The Caspar David Friedrich Center is located in the birthplace of the Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, who was born in Greifswald. It is dedicated to his life and work. The Museumshafen Greifswald is located directly on the river Ryck in the town center. In the Museumshafen historic ships are restored, maintained and made accessible to the public.

The botanical garden adjoins the old town in south-west. It is one of the oldest existing scientific gardens in the world. The Tierpark Greifswald contains a petting zoo and an adventure playground and it is always worth a visit.
